We believe every family should have the option of a comfortable, natural-fibre school uniform that is free of chemical textile coatings. The Uniform Project helps schools introduce affordable organic-cotton garments alongside their existing range. A school can start with just one approved alternative, such as an everyday polo or shirt.

The Issue with Synthetic Fabrics
Polyester and polyester blends are common in school uniforms. They’re practical and durable, but some children find them hot or uncomfortable, particularly if they have eczema-prone skin or sensory sensitivities.
Dyes and chemical finishes aren’t always clear from a clothing label. Research has found substances of concern in some textiles, although the health effects of wearing an individual uniform have not been established. Families deserve clearer information and the choice of a certified natural-fibre option.
Polyester is made primarily from fossil fuels. It does not readily biodegrade and can shed microplastic fibres during wear and washing, adding to textile pollution.
Imagine how much plastic textile waste we could prevent if every school in Australia offered a natural-fibre uniform option.
HOW WE WORK
We work with schools and P&Cs to create organic-cotton garments that match their current uniform as closely as practical, from colour and cut to school branding. Our manufacturing partners hold relevant GOTS and Fairtrade certifications.
We recommend starting with one garment. Once your school approves the idea, we can confirm the design and quote, arrange a sample if needed, and help you plan a parent pre-order. Orders start at 100 units per style, with different sizes counting towards that total. Production takes approximately 75–90 days after final approval.
OUR NATURAL FIBRES
Certified organic cotton
Grown without synthetic pesticides, soft from the first wash, and naturally breathable, letting air circulate. We work with GOTS and Fair Trade manufacturers that produce their own certified organic cotton yarn.
100% Cotton Oeko-Tex 100 certified
In some cases, with woven shirts, drill shorts, skorts and hoodies, we need to use regular cotton to support the requirements of small school orders. All our regular cotton is certified free of harmful chemicals. We are currently exploring the use of Good Earth Cotton in small quantities.

Tests the finished fabric for more than 100 substances pesticides, heavy metals, formaldehyde, toxic dyes and confirms it’s safe against skin.
Fairtrade
Certifies fair prices and ethical labour conditions for the farmers growing the cotton in the first place.
Current obstacles
We hear from many parents who want an alternative now, and we understand their frustration. As a small business running this project on low margins, we can currently proceed with a custom school order only when the school or P&C has approved the idea of ordering at least 100 units. We also need the school’s permission to reproduce its logo.
We hope to hold stock in the future. For now, making garments to order is what lets us use premium, certified fabrics while keeping prices affordable. A 100-unit order may be more achievable than it sounds: 20 students buying five shirts each would meet the minimum. Families can express interest and choose sizes before production begins, so a school can establish demand without replacing its current uniform range.
